Howdy, everyone. So, here is the list of 7 Tips about maintaining good menstrual hygiene for your period.
Pretty minor isn’t it? (Sarcasm, I know).
Now, maintaining good menstrual hygiene should be one of the utmost priorities when you are on your period. It is important because poor menstrual hygiene can put you at risk of many bacterial and fungal infections in your reproductive or urinary tract. I’m pretty sure you don’t want to get any of those down there!
So, here we have put together some tips for you to follow in order to maintain good menstrual hygiene in your shark week!
7 Tips about maintaining good menstrual hygiene for your period
#1 CHANGE YOUR PAD/TAMPON EVERY 5-6 HOURS
This should be followed like it is a rule, period (pun intended). Wearing the same pad/tampon for a long period of time can cause sweating and irritation. You are also at risk of urinary tract infections and rashes. Keep changing your pads and tampons from time to time, you don’t want to get attacked by those microorganisms.
#2 TAKE A BATH EVERY DAY
Most people tend to perspire more than usual when on their period. It is better to use soap and water, especially in the summer. Sweating just provides a breeding ground for that bacteria to keep yourself squeaky clean!
#3 CLEAN YOUR PRIVATE PARTS
When you are on your period, the blood flowing out of the vagina might get on the skin around it. It’s always a better choice to wipe that out as well. The blood can get you all sticky and cause a nasty odor as well.
#4 SLOW DOWN ON THOSE FANCY SOAPS AND VAGINA HYGIENE PRODUCTS
I know that the vaginal wash you got last week smells really good but you might wanna slow down on that for the meanwhile. Using it on normal days is a good thing to do, but using it through all that bloodshed isn’t a good idea. The vagina has it’s own systems to clean itself up.
#5 DISCARD YOUR SANITARY NAPKIN/TAMPON PROPERLY
As important as it is to use your pads/tampons properly, it is equally important to properly dispose of your sanitary napkins and tampons as well. Proper disposal will ensure that no infections are spread through your used goodies.
#6 USE A CLEAN MENSTRUAL CUP
Every time you use a menstrual cup, make sure to wash it properly with non-scented soap before use. In fact, it would be good to wash it every 4 to 8 hours during the day before you re-insert after emptying it up.
#7 EMPTY YOUR MENSTRUAL CUP REGULARLY
If you use menstrual cups, then make sure to keep a check from time to time. It is recommended to check them every 3-4 hours. Also, you shouldn’t wear the same menstrual cup for more than 12 hours.
In conclusion, it is advisable to maintain good menstrual hygiene to keep infections at bay.
There is a lot of taboo going around every time these important issues are to be addressed. So, it is always better to do your own research and make sure you find out the best alternative for yourself. Be safe.
